I built an airfix spitfire about 15 years ago so I’m using that as the base for my colour scheme. Unfortunately my brown paint turned into one solid lump so I need to go buy some more tomorrow. Instead I’ve put one coat of “Ork Flesh” on and some “Elf Grey” on the bottom 🙂 […]
Flight 1: Not enough down thrust, too much power for take off up down, crunch. 2 hours rebuild due to the firewall coming off. I covered the fuselage today, got away with doing the rudder and elevator then the rest of the side in once piece. Spraying it down with water and letting it dry tightened most of it right up. The pictures show the first dope layer still drying on the fuselage:
A bit more progress: I’ve made the wing removable using a carbon rod at the front into a piece of ply glued to the fuselage. The back is held on with two bolts through a piece of ply in the wing and another piece in the fuselage. There’s a reinforcement piece of ply along the […]

1.5mm carbon fibre bulkhead – light weight and very strong. I’ve used epoxy to glue this on. Tail plane: I’ve decided to try and build the tail light weight, hopefully it will be strong enough 🙂
I’ve got a complete wing now, I’ve used a piece of carbon fibre as the main spar instead of the stuff that came with the kit. Its lighter and stronger. The CG looks fine, even with just the battery in the nose, so once there’s more weight at the back I don’t think it’s going […]
